San Marcos Spring Festival

Wow! Sunday, April 12th was a great day to walk through the San Marcos Festival Celebrating Spring and all San Marcos has to offer...

Walking though the festival, families were having a fun day out together while businesses were networking and promoting each other...
I had the opportunity to meet many local businesses and Chamber members and members of the City of San Marcos...very informative, positive, and knowledgeable people...what a great group!!

It is surprising to know how little people in the city of San Marcos know about the Buena Creek Gardens!!! The Gardens have been in the Twin Oaks Valley since 1970's...Starting as a 4 acre Iris Farm!
Read full History of Buena Creek Gardens here: http://www.buenacreekgardens.com/about.html

Here is a direct quote of when San Marcos was really starting to grow as a city:
"The city became incorporated on January 28, 1963. Through the 1960s, the city slowly gained new residents but by the 1970s, San Marcos became the third fastest-growing city in the state with a population of 17,479. During the 1980s, San Marcos almost doubled its population to 33,800. Growth has continued to boom in San Marcos bringing the city’s present population to 83,781"

What an enlightening and exciting day!!

Come visit the Buena Creek Gardens to see some of San Marco's history!!

104 yr old Woman's first visit to Buena Creek Gardens!!

While on a beautifully sunny day at Buena Creek Gardens, two lovely ladies came walking in...

As I walked up to say "hello" and ask if it was their first time visiting, I was surprised to hear the ederly woman say it was her first time at the Gardens, and she was 104 years old!!!
Her Grand-daughter Linda Ketcham, resides in San Diego, and picks her Grandma up to take her out for the day frequently...

Amparo Ketcham was born in Mexico, and came into the United States at age 8. She has lived, and raised a family, and even out-lived family members in California ever since.

Now in a Senior living development where she has her own home and takes care of herself, Amparo uses a cane and sometimes a walker when alone she said... She is in great health and wonderful spirit. She loved a ceramic Parrot from the giftshop which she purchased for her own home. She loved all the variety of colors. She said she was surpised she hadn't been to the Gardens before and it was: "such a beautiful place."

We had Tea and cookies with Amparo in "El Shakito" while Linda did some shopping...
Amparo talked about growing up and her Mom having the same antique Singer Sewing machine that is attached to its own table with the wheel...She talked about how she was raised and her secret to life. (A glass of Red Wine EVERY night and walking)...

We should all be truly thankful whenever we are in the presence of a Centurion!!
The life they have lived, the history, the knowledge...it's truly amazing!!!

Thank You Linda for Bringing Amparo to the Buena Creek Gardens!!! Come again soon!!
